Making money and blogging seems synonymous. Yes?

Well, that is what I thought as well when I started blogging almost two years ago. I quickly discovered it isn’t as easy as I thought. Yes, it can be done much more quickly than my two years, but it takes WORK.

I read these exact words when I started my blog. Of course, I looked up how to make money blogging when I began. I am here to tell you now, no guidelines will prepare for you blogging, you just have to try it for yourself. Yes, there are a vast number of courses and blogging conferences. These are certainly programs you can try for yourself, I just never did and am not comfortable endorsing programs I have not completed myself.

My smartest blogging move, in the beginning, was when I sent a Facebook message to Kristin of Misadventures in Mommyhood and asked her how long it took her to make money on her blog. Four years, she told me. FOUR YEARS!

They tell you when you begin a business venture not to expect money the first few years and you may experience the same with blogging or you may be a huge success in the first few months. It really depends on your mindset. If you’re set on making money the first few months, it is certainly possible.

I was a hobby blogger for a very long time. When I did finally decide to monetize I was able to make that $200.00, within the first six weeks. There has been a huge learning curve as aforementioned, but what I truly realized is you need a solid social media following, a great blogging group and a list of the best companies to work with.

  1. Gaining followers.

Gaining followers on social media channels is not easy. My recommendation is to start with Instagram. I say this because most of my campaigns have come through Instagram posts. Begin by making yourself a public page, just for your blog. Post with pretty pictures, catchy captions and all of the hashtags you can think of. You can view my IG right here as an example.

2. Find a blogging group (or a few!)

My best blogging groups are on Facebook. They are called the Mom Bloggers Tribe (only opens a few times for new members) and Naptime Nation. Inez of For the Love of Mom is a master blogger. Seriously. I wouldn’t have made any money without her knowledge. If you are looking for a blogging course, she has them and I would guess they are worth it. With a blogging group, you can connect with other bloggers for support and help.

3. The best companies.

Here is the important stuff. If you are reading this and already have a good social media following and blogging group. Great! Now you just need the companies who work with bloggers. Here are my favorite ones:

Social Native

Social Native works with big companies like Windows and Frito Lay. Someone sent me a message asking where I had gotten some posts from the bigger companies. This is them! Payments are great and timely. As with most campaigns, you must apply and get selected from the company. If you do not get the first few ads, do not get discouraged! It is very competitive.

I love Heartbeat! This is where most of my ads come from and I just love them for their opportunities! Their team is quick to respond when you need them and are always happy to help. You pay rate depends upon the number of followers. Again, you must apply for each campaign.

Linqia is a unique site, you are paid for the number of clicks on each post. Admittedly this one takes a little more work than the others. However, it pays off!

This amazing company has been around for quite some time. They send an email when there are new campaigns. Like the others, just apply and they will tell you if you have been accepted.

Share a Sale
Share a Sale is an affiliate program for bloggers. An affiliate program basically means when someone clicks on your link and makes a purchase you get a portion of the sale. It doesn’t change the price of the product. It’s the same as other sites, you just make money as well!! It really is wonderful and share a Sale has so many different companies and links you can add to your blog!

Blogging does take a lot of work, but it is worth the rewards. Not only have I made money from my blog, I have connected with so many extraordinary moms and bloggers.

I hope this list helps, happy blogging!

  1. Awesome, this list is so helpful. I’d love to start making money blogging, but after a lot of research I realize it’s not going to be easy. I don’t have much of a following yet either. It looks like setting up an Instagram account t is my next big project.
I’m having a lot of fun with my blog and I really do want it to go somewhere so I’m prepared to work hard for it.
Thanks again for this list and information. I keep learning more and more!
